Kalamazoo County and the towns around it
The Michigan licence is the same wherever you are. The permit office is not, and it changes three times inside this service area. So does the housing, which matters more than the mileage.
Inside the City of Kalamazoo, the reroof permit is fifty two dollars per structure and it is issued by Community Planning and Economic Development at 150 East Crosstown Parkway, on 311 or 269-337-8000. Portage runs its own. Move north into Plainwell or Otsego and you are in Allegan County. Move west to Paw Paw and you are in Van Buren. Ask any company quoting outside the city which office they are filing with.
What varies beyond paperwork is the building stock and the exposure. Lakeside housing carries complicated roofs and open wind. The old mill towns along the Kalamazoo River carry steep pre war framing and attics that were never designed to be ventilated. The post war suburbs south of the city carry simple roofs and a great many of them reaching the end at the same time.
